Engagement of Individuals in their health and health care: International Perspectives
Pablo Rivero Corte, Senior Advisor - Health Innovation, Calgary Health Region
Mr. Rivero Corte’s role at Calgary Health focuses on the implementation of the Health Innovation Strategy. This strategy was created to improve citizen engagement through different channels and collaborate with health care professionals to enhance professional fulfillment through innovative tools. An Innovation Strategy Steering Committee has been established to set priorities and specific projects are being developed to support these areas.
In August 2006, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the Calgary Health Region and the Junta de Andalucia in Spain to develop collaborative programs on health and wellness. Mr. Rivero Corte will be developing a comprehensive and common strategy on Chronic Disease Management with Andalucia, the Province of Alberta and the Calgary Health Region.
In Spain, Mr. Rivero Corte was involved in the creation of Health Andalusia 24h, a health care and information service accessible through different communication channels. This service provides immediate responses that are customized to each person’s needs, providing a more accessible, comprehensive and high quality health information on their health situation, as well as assessment tools.
Mr. Rivero Corte has also held senior government positions in Spain and most recently served as the Deputy Minister of Health Innovation in the Ministry of Health of Andalucia. He has been integral in the creation of a citizen’s relationships framework and the development of Information and Communication Technology for professional performance.
In May 2006, Mr. Rivero Corte was the Co-Chair of the European High-Level e-Health Conference, in Malaga, which brought together most Ministers of Health and policy-making leaders from the European Union, to discuss common challenges and develop common approaches to meet them.
A lawyer by training, Mr. Rivero Corte has held several strategic positions in provincial governments in Spain. In the European Union, he is recognized as a leader in the use of health technology for citizen engagement. , He was also a member of the National Spanish Volleyball Squad.
