The Mindful Clinician:
The Benefits of Being in the Moment
Michael Stone, psychotherapist, author and teacher

The term 'mindfulness' is permeating through the clinical, medical and scientific communities with much excitement. The first wave focused on how to employ "mindfulness techniques" with those who suffered from pain, depression, anxiety or recurring psycho-physical symptoms. Experience is beginning to illustrate that what is most beneficial about mindfulness meditation and contemplative practice, is the clinician's own presence and how 'being in the moment' helps reduce burnout, increases the quality of clinical interventions and positively impacts our respective clinical techniques.

Combining personal practice with clinical evidence, Michael will illustrate what mindfulness is, and juxtapose the traditional Buddhist psychological framework from which mindfulness meditation is derived from with our daily work.

Michael Stone is a psychotherapist in private practice, author and teacher. He has created well respected courses in Canada and the United States that incorporate mindful clinical techniques. He has also taught internationally in academic and clinical settings. He leads Centre of Gravity, a diverse community of yoga and Buddhist practitioners in Toronto and is a prolific author on the subject of mind-body practices, spirituality and ethics. His website is http://www.centreofgravity.org/
