Hospital Volunteer Network

As the population ages and the prevalence of chronic conditions increases, more and more is expected from hospital healthcare teams. Providing optimum care is often challenged by time restrictions and financial constraints, creating the need to maximize the potential of all workforce members. Volunteers represent a frequently unacknowledged resource that can contribute significantly to healthcare.

The Hospital Volunteerism Knowledge Network and Leadership Council have now launched under the joint leadership of Manulife Financial, with Co-Chair Catherine Barbaro, and Bridgepoint Active Healthcare, with Co-Chair Michelle Nelson. The focus of the Knowledge Network is to develop, distribute and apply knowledge related to best practices and patient-focused hospital volunteerism.

Manulife's partnerships with three additional hospitals: The Hospital for Sick Children, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and St. Mary's General Hospital, provide an excellent opportunity to collaborate regarding volunteer programs and services, and serve as the Leadership Council for the larger Knowledge Network.

Mission

To share knowledge and foster collaborative work related to the development of best practice volunteer programs designed to positively impact patient experience and health outcomes.
