CAREERS

A Closer Look @ Bridgepoint Hospital

Located in the east end of Toronto, Bridgepoint Hospital is a 479-bed complex continuing care and rehabilitation hospital dedicated to providing exceptional care to the growing numbers of people in the Greater Toronto Area living with Complex Chronic Disease and disability.

Our patients are survivors, and their stories are inspiring. Many have lived through traumatic, life-altering events such as strokes or car accidents or are living with the devastating effects of degenerative diseases. Our staff have the rare opportunity to work in a challenging environment where we make a significant impact every day on the quality of our patients’ lives.

We are currently recruiting

There’s never been a better time to join Bridgepoint.

We have the plan to lead the way in advancing staff care in an exciting new and emerging health area – Complex Chronic Disease and disability

Bridgepoint has developed a comprehensive plan to ensure we will be Canada’s Leader in the prevention and management of Complex Chronic Disease and disability – the most important health care issue of the 21st century.

Our exciting, transformative, strategy will be shared with all new Bridgepoint recruits and every Bridgepoint staff member will have a direct part to play in bringing the plan to life.

We’re ready to lead through innovative staff research and education

Through our ongoing fundraising efforts to support our research funding needs, our continually advancing relationship with the University of Toronto, and our leading information systems, Bridgepoint staff are focused on advancing our academic capabilities. All staff play a role in advancing our staff research, teaching and publishing goals.

We are building a new Hospital that will enable excellence

Opening in late 2013, the new Bridgepoint hospital will bring leading design to leading health care. The new hospital was designed by HDR Architecture Inc. and Diamond and Schmitt Architects, in Joint Venture. Both firms have won numerous awards for their work. Staff will enjoy the new design because it offers patients the very best environment possible for their health.

A Hospital designed for caring

From the patients’ beds to the public areas of the hospital, each area has been designed to give patients expanded control and choices as their health improves:

  • room temperature and light can be adjusted by patients.
  • patient rooms will be equipped with fully accessible ensuite washrooms and showers.
  • patient rooms will allow full turning radius for each bed and for all sizes of wheelchairs, enabling patients to begin to regain independence, starting in their own space.
  • rooms will be large enough to accommodate families, friends and care team members working together to help patients to achieve their recovery goals.
  • therapy areas will be centrally located on each floor, for easy accessibility and patient comfort.
  • each floor includes dining rooms, activity areas and patient lounges, to encourage patients’ mobility and recovery.
  • all patients will have a window view from their bed that they are able to enjoy even if they aren’t able to sit or stand up
  • lounge areas with large windows on each unit will give patients a place to meet and enjoy the scenery, while remaining within safe reach of their care teams
  • a rooftop garden will encourage mingling, reflection and quiet time for patients, their family and friends
  • floor-to-ceiling windows will connect our new therapeutic pool to the activity of Riverdale Park
  • wheelchair-accessible ramps connect the park and pool-level terraces to the upper terrace and our community labyrinth, the embodiment of an ancient symbol of wellness and wholeness

A Hospital designed to inspire staff

As importantly, our new hospital design will enable Bridgepoint staff to be inspired by an environment that provides them with the energy and resources the need to provide leading patient care.   Our new hospital will offer staff:

  • a healthy workplace environment including health and wellness programs, a staff gym, wellness café and multiple staff lounges
  • modern lecture halls, meeting rooms and leading technology will enable our academic culture to thrive, foster excellent team-based care, and ensure nurses have the information they need at our fingertips to enable best care
  • efficient use of space, ergonomically sound work areas and an abundance of natural light will ensure our staff can work to their optimal capacity
